Despite their lovable and independent tendencies, cats thrive when attention is lavished upon them. Cats seem to develop a closer relationship with their owners when pampered.

As a result, cat owners often look for endless hours for new and exciting new ways to give their kitty extra attention, as Binx is fully aware, and this can take a variety of forms from grooming sessions, to special treats such as sardines, to homemade or bought toys, or random toys, such as Binx's favourite toy.... his tennis ball!

Like many cat owners, I have been accused of giving too much attention to my kitty. But can one truley pamper their cat too much?

Cats do need to understand that there are rules and boundaries, such as jumping up onto the kitchen bench is a huge no-no in our household. Lucky, if these rules are strickly adhered too, cats are notoriously quick studies and usually pick up on these limits quickly and tent to abide by them, but may find once and a while kitty - just like a child - will test these limits every now and again, where is where kitty just needs to be reminded on the rules and boundaries are again.

Moderation would be the key you would have thought as at some point, too much pampering could create a needy animal. Luckily, compared with other pets (most notably dogs), there is a wide margin of error with cats. You will see far greater benefits from your efforts than you will detriments!

Stick to the basic rules and boundaries and it will be very difficult to spoil your kitty too much!

If you spoil your cat, as like anything your cat will expect this more and more, but then what cat owner could refuse? After all, your kitty enjoys the attention and you enjoy providing it, and in the meantimes the cat/owner bond, relationship and quality of life is strengthened.

As independent as cats are, it's almost like an insurance that your kitty will not get too needy. Most cats have a point of over stimulation, where, when kitty has had enough, he will just simply get up and walk away. If lash outs occur, control these early so kitty understands this is not the way to let you know that he's had enough!

Training your kitty is another successful way of improving the bond. Although cats may be a little bit harder to train - they can be very brilliant at it! I thought it would be IMPOSSIBLE to do such a thing, but my eyes have been opened where Binx will come, sit, play dead, fetch, and various other things on command - and with this talent he has featured in a great new book that will be out soon! Meanwhile take a look at this....

Cassandra Mandello, has training secrets that will create an incredible bond with your cat than you ever thought was possible!
