Everyone who has owned a kitten right from day one will have different ways of telling you the best way to toilet a cat. Here in this article, I will share with you the secret of success to toilet train a cat in a logical way that has been tried and tested so you know it will work with minimal or no mistakes from your cat!

Usually the best time to get a kitten is around 8 weeks of age. Sometimes this can vary depending, but kittens should really not leave their mother younger than 6 weeks of age. Because of this, the kittens are still being weaned and can tend to have behavioural problems because of being weaned to early and because toileting for a kitten is behavioural, problems can arise if this the case.

Click Here For Kingdom Of Cats : Complete Cat Training!

The mother cat has plenty to do with toilet training in the wee kittens first 8 weeks of life. If possible a litter tray should be kept close to the litter to be able to stumble too and far away enough so bedding and food can not be comtaminated. The mother will use the litter box, and don’t be upset with this, as she is just showing her babies how to use it (if she has been taught properly of course!)

If this fails and the kitten has been rehomed and is still unable to use the litter tray the best way to toilet train a cat is to for the first few days of getting him or her home, is to place kitten in a smallish confined room with bed, food and water, plus a litter tray. Line the room with newspaper or towels if you feel you need to do so.

A kitten will get the “call of nature” usually after feeding. Never try to toilet train a cat after excessive play or sleep as the lesson will not sink in! After feeding your kitten, place her or him into the litter tray, you can even carefully get a paw and dig around a little. Digging is instinct and the kitten should pick up on this relatively quickly. If not show yourself digging a little in the tray while the kitten is watching. After all you are now considered in the eyes of the kitten, her or his new mother!

Other good times to place your kitten in the litter tray is when it’s sniffing around or you see her or him scratching about, possibly even circling. Thus the need to go is pretty urgent and will continue after placing kitten into the litter tray and the kitten will relief her or himself, and voila! A lesson has been learnt!

The other thing to look out for is buying a litter tray with sides too high, kitten needs to be able to climb in and out easy without tripping or falling and good experiences need to be associated with the litter box so never get angry and yell at your kitten, otherwise she or he will associate the litter box for being yelled at.

They say that a human has to repeat something up to 27 times before it becomes a learnt habit, so if cats are truly smarter than humans, this will make you happy to hear that this will be a breeze for you to toilet train your cat.

If problems still occur with toileting, there can be underlying medical conditions or behavioural problems so is best to visit your veterinarian in this case. Patience is the key, and especially lots of praise, love and attention will also go a long way in making your kitten or cat into a successful toilet trainer you will truly be proud of!

Cat food diet. No, it is not a fad hollywood diet to help slim down your cat in 10 days. Finding the right cat food diet can determine the correct balance of vitamins, proteins, carbohydrates, lipids or Fats / Oils and water in your cat’s diet for his age. In this article, I will help you understand more of why your cat needs this balance and how to tell at what stage your cat is at to choose the correct food for your cat.

Click Here for Cat Secrets Revealed!

Your cat, your cat’s ancestors and bigger cousins are all classed as carnivores. They eat meat for a living and not much else. This is why it is important for your cat to have a diet high in protein. They will not survive on much else. Carbohydrates are used in the body to store energy which is typically used for hunting and killing prey, but for your cute cat, this will be used for trotting around the house and chasing the birds out on the lawn!

The Lipids or Fats and Oils are used to provide heat and also energy, but a lot quicker than carbohydrates. Fats also provide insulation and protection for vital organs such as the heart and kidneys. Vitamins are also needed at the just the right amount, as being deficient or and excess of vitamins in the body can cause serious illness and sometimes death. Click here for a list of vitamins and their effects on the body if deficient or used in excess.

Last but not the least, water is the most important substance in any diet, human or animal. Especially if your cat food diet typically consists of dry food. The recommended water intake for a cat is 30 – 50 milliliters per kilogram of cat per day in fresh, clean water. Any cat drinking less or more than this or has changed his drinking habits recently needs to visit a veterinarian promptly for a check up at over drinking can indicate kidney failure and so fourth.

There are plenty of foods out there on the market that are very inexpensive to very expensive. Finding the right cat food diet along with it fitting the budget and goodness it will provide your cat can be tricky. I always recommend a trip to your veterinarian and look into their products they sell. These diets are usually of premium quality and can range in price, but will be more dependable than your supermarket cat food, and you can sometimes be pleasantly surprised that some premium foods can cost lest than supermarket foods, purely by the fact that since the premium foods have more power packed food, you generally do not have to feed as much so therefore not having to fork out huge cat food bills!

The life stages of the premium and some supermarket foods can vary. The mains ones are:

Kitten. Ages 0 – 1 years old. Feed to kittens after weaning and also pregnant and lactating queens. Why? This food contains more protein and calcium to aid with development of the kittens.

Adult or Maintenance. Ages 1 – 7 years old. When reaching the age of 1, kitten food should gradually be replaced by adult food. The kitten has done his growing and now just needs to maintain a healthy weight.

Senior. Ages 7 years and up. When reaching the age of 7, adult food should slowly be changed to senior food. This type of food has more energy and easier to digest protiens. Also some senior foods help ward off some diseases such as kidney disease and hyperthyroidism.

Knowing how much to feed your cat is typically found on the back of the premium diet bags and is determined by the weight of your cat, so be careful not to overfeed or you may have an obese cat on your hands!

Alternatively there are also a number of diets that are catered for by the premium ranges. Such as Obesity or Restricted Calorie for overweight cats. Low Ph/s for urinary problems, Low Residue or Sensitive for sensitive stomachs and bowels, Dental to help reduce tartar build up, Renal for maintenance of kidney problems and so fourth. Most of these products need to be prescribed by your veterinarian.

If in doubt, always ask your veterinarian, they will always know what is best for your cat food diet.

I know most cat owners have had the trouble with cat scratching for many a moon, so if you are reading this, you must be experiencing some trouble also. Let me help you understand in this article and help you stop cat scratching in your home. Possibly for good!

To understand why your cat likes to scratch everything around your home and garden, you will have to look to his ancestors and his bigger cousins, such as the Tiger, Lion, Leopard and so forth. These big cats have huge territories in the wild and need to protect their territories by marking their boundaries.

Click Here for Kingdom of Pets: Complete Cat Training!

There are several ways for big cats to do this. Most commonly there is spraying urine onto a vertical object such as a tree, bush or rock (See my ‘What Is It With Cat Urine Smell‘ article for more details on this). The other most common method of territorial marking is scratching. The big cats can scratch up grass and logs, even standing trees to get the point across to other animals in the habitat that this is their territory and to back off.

This is where your dear old tabby cat has still has some of his wild streak left in him so to speak. With towns growing bigger and more cramp, cats are getting more and more territorial and stressed that their territory is under threat by the cute tortishell next door. What is a cat to do? Scratch out his territory!

While scratching out his territory this also helps the cat sharpen his claws, ready just incase there may be a battle in the coming future. I also suspect that the territory cat uses it also to show off how big he or she is by stretching as far up the tree as possible scratching as high up as possible so when another cat comes across the markings, will be immediately warded off just by the shear hight of where the scratches are on the tree!

So how to put a stop cat scratching? This one can be a difficult one to curb but can be very rewarding once you have mastered such a thing! Especially when your furniture is at stake.

There are a wonderful array of products on the market out there from sticking carpet on the walls, buying fancy rolled up bits of cardboard for an exorbitant amount, to different types of cat scratcher poles to inclining scratch pads. All of these devices can satisfy your cats need to scratch, you just need to observe what your cat likes doing the most then testing a few of the products out that you think would work. Such as, if your cat is a tree scratcher, invest in a pole scratcher. If your cat likes to scratch up grass or the carpet on the floor, invest in a scratcher that is in line with this habit.

All new things take time to use and your cat can take his time to show his appreciation for such a new object, so show your cat how to use it, put it in the most ’scratched at’ spot so he has no choice but to use it, invest in some cat nip as well and smother it all over the new toy. Cats are creatures of habit so forming a new one to stop cat scratching elsewhere can sometimes be exhausting but also a rewarding task.

If that does not work, use a favorite piece of furniture the cat has his heart set of to destroy and encourage him to use only this chair and not your new furniture! Or find a nice sturdy piece of driftwood to add as a feature to your garden and also encourage him to use this. Reward and praise often, your cat will soon get the idea and what all the fuss is about.

Get the low down on the nasties with this beauty e-book with heaps of extras!

“How To Protect Your Pet From Fleas” tells you everything you ever wanted to know about fleas. How they can easily infest your home and play havoc with you health and your pets health as even a single bite from a flea can have horrible allergic reactions to some animals and even to humans.

Find out all about use of Flea Foggers and Bombs, the five different types of flea control products out there on the market, and even organic and herbal remedies for powders and collars. Find out how to actually tell if your pets has fleas, and there are some great home remedies but also has information for you to make informed choices from the leading brands of flea control out there in today’s market.

To tell you the truth, ‘How To Prevent Your Pet From Fleas’ truly opened my eyes to the world of the flea and how volatile they can be, and at the same time, it also reinforced the information that I already learnt though my study at NZCPIT and working in a Veterinarian Practice. It is a MUST READ for any pet owner that could be potentially suffering from this easily to control parasite!

And my favorite… “How To Prevent Your Pet From Fleas” also covers flea control products from you local supermarket or discount stores, why you should AVOID them! While working in a Veterinary Practice, it was appalling to see the damage these products can do to your pet. So this e-book will even help you out if you are on a budget - which is a major bonus in todays current recession.

Win the battle on fleas, regain you cat, your home and your sanity!

When I first opened this .pdf book to the Complete Cat Training, I was so amazed at the shear volume of information this book has to offer cat owners!

This ebook will take you into all realms of cat ownership (or cat slavery as some cat owners may like to look at it!) and it shares with you some of the tips and tricks of the funny habits you thought only your cat had!

I also thoroughly enjoyed the clicker training! I have got my big tabby boy - Binx to come on the sound of a clicker and command! Binx will now sit on command and even lie down! I’m currently working on walking Binx with a cat harness… and he is getting there! Needless to say I feel quite proud, and am going to start work on my younger companion - Bauer as soon as Binx gets a few more tricks under his belt. I promise I will definitely have to upload a video on youtube soon to show you my efforts from this great ebook!

Also included in this ebook is all about choosing the right cat for your lifestyle, believe me there is a difference! You will find stacks of useful information about cat health, toilet training, grooming and nutrition in this one simple book!

Do you have a problem with your cats behaviour? Problem solved if you purchase this ebook. They solve over 25 of the most common cat behaviour problems so you know you are getting a true, tried and experienced advice. They even offer an email consultation with the Complete Cat Training Team, not many other ebooks will offer you such a great deal!

Oh wait, I forgot another bonus… sign up to their newsletter series and you will get information on How to prevent your Cat from destructive attention seeking behavior, How to get your Cat to toilet in the correct place, What to do to overcome separation anxiety, Selecting the right kitten for you, Stopping scratch and spraying, and Overcoming aggressive tendencies directly to your inbox with no cost or obligation!

I know your probably think I love this ebook far to much, but you also get a bonus! Two actually! Another ebook “The Ultimate Guide To Pampering Your Cat” and “The Essential Cat Recipe Book” with loads and loads of easy recipes to start spoiling your cat absolutely rotten! So what is there not to love?

If I ever reincarnate back into a cat, I definitely will be meowing and scratching at my owner to buy this ebook, quick smart!

In this day and age, where everything is getting super-sized, when countries like New Zealand’s population is 50% overweight, while we are super-sizing our waist lines, it’s just as easy to supersize our pets. So how can you tell if you have a fat cat?

Cats should be lean, well oiled hunting machines, but sometimes due to disease, illness or just plain laziness, your slinky cat can turn into a fat cat in the blink of an eye it seems.

A normal healthy female cat should weigh approximately 3 - 5 kilos on average and a healthy male adult cat should weigh approximately 4 - 6 kilos on average. Of course this is very hard to go by as pure bred cats are increasingly popular and are bred for specific purposes so weight can hugely vary in bred such as a small devon rex up to the big main coon.

Click Here For Cat Care Secrets : What Every Cat Owner Must Know!

In the veterinary world, they have devised a scale from 1 to 5 much like a human BMI but on a smaller basis, to measure how emaciated or obese the cat is. The body scoring system is as follows.

1. Emaciated or anorexic. Ribs, spine and flank or pelvis bones are visible through the skin from a distance and with a very distinctive waist when views from above. The cat lacks muscle mass and will have little or no body fat.

2. Thin. The Ribs, spine and flank or pelvis bones are visible and can easily be felt through the skin eg; clench your fist and rub a finger across your knuckles. The cat will have little body fat and will have an obvious waist when viewed from above.

3. Ideal weight for every cat. This is where the ribs and spine can be felt and possibly the last few ribs may be visible eg; open your hand and rub your finger across the palm of your hand just below where your fingers join your hand. The cat should have a good muscle mass and will have a nice hour glass waist when views from above.

4. Overweight. The ribs and spine will not be visible but can be felt. The cat will have a rounded appearance and you will not be able to see a waist when viewed from above. There will be a flank fold under the belly that will clearly be visible and will wobble when the cat moves.

5. Obese. The ribs and spine on this type of cat will be not visible to the eye, and will even be difficult to feel eg; open your hand and run your finger across the palm pad of your hand just above your wrist. Even the tail will look fat on this fat cat! When viewed from above the cat will have no waist and the back will look very broad. The flank fold under the belly of your cat will sway as he walks.

So check your cat to see where about on the scale you can place him. If you have a fat cat, the best advise is to take him to a veterinarian where she or he will be able to help put your cat onto a special diet to reduce his calorie intake and get him back into the ideal weight range. Never diet your cat without the advise of your veterinarian as cats are sensitive, and need their food reduced gradually.

The maximum weight a cat should loose is 1% of their weight per week so this can be a long process. This ensures they still get all the nutrients they need, and ensures that they keep the weight off for good!

Oh no, you start to see you cat starting to itch again. The first thing that probably comes to mind is FLEAS! What a pain! You will have to treat the cat with a cat flea treatment, wash all the bedding in the house, protect the kids or other animals in your house and get out and purchase a flea bomb! What a hassle! What if you could understand why the outbreaks occur and what if you could control them? I will explain it all to you in this article.

Click Here To Protect Your Pet From Fleas!

Facts you did not want to know.

The adult fleas you ACTUALLY see jumping around on your cat’s body only makes up 5% of the population currently living on your cat! So if the adult population only makes up 5%, then what else is residing on your cat? Could this explain the reason why you have to fork out more and more money for this pest?

The answer is YES. Adult fleas will lay eggs. The eggs will make up 50% of the population alone! Once the eggs hatch open this stage is called larvae, almost like wee caterpillars or maggots which makes up the next 35% living on your cat. This is just disgusting! The last stage of the flea is a pupae stage or a cocoon stage - just like a butterfly - just not so pretty. The pupae stage accounts for the last 10% residing on your cat.

So how do you treat them and for how long? That’s the big question. Cat flea treatments such as cat collars do not only smell bad but are very toxic. I have seen many cats have very bad skin reactions to these, and also the cat owners who have a similar reaction. Any supermarket cat flea treatment should be avoided also, as they are poor quality and can badly harm your cat.

www.ah.novartis.com

The best step is to visit your veterinarian. Only they know best. Products such as Advantage and Frontline are highly recommended. These products work by killing the flea at the adult and larvae stage. The egg and pupae stage are the hardest to kill, so cat flea treatment needs to be applied once every four to six weeks, depending on the product information.

If you miss an application, remember to apply it as soon as possible as cocoons will hatch into adult fleas who will start laying eggs and then the process has just begun again. It is advisable to apply a cat flea treatment once a month for the duration of your cat’s life, as it will be worth it. You will never have to worry about fleas in your bed, in your carpet, bites on you and your children ever again!

Using products such as Advantage Multi and Frontline Plus will further protect your cat from Flea Tapeworms which can make your cat very sick. So to use cat flea treatment is making sure your cat is healthy and making sure that you and your family is healthy as well!

If you said YES then I highly recommend this product for you!

Fleas do not only make your cat miserable, they make you and your family miserable too by biting and itching! This amazing product will show you how to protect your cat from fleas and get them out of your life - for good!

Now to a lot of people, training a cat or cat training can sound very odd and very hard to do. This can be the case but like dogs, a cat can learn to sit, lay down, fetch, climb ladders, and more all at a voice command! You do not need to be a professional trainer, you just need a lot of treats and a lot of patience.

It does not matter if you have just scooped your kitten up from the shelter or from the pet store, or have had your pet cat for 7 years. Cats are very intelligent creatures, and also creatures of habit, so training a cat can be timely but equally rewarding at the same time.

Click Here For Kingdom Of Pets : Complete Cat Training!

With the aide of cat treats and repetition, your cat will learn quickly, make sure you have plenty of treats on hand, your in an environment free from distractions, your cat is well focused (not just woken up for sleep or so tired he is falling to sleep!), maybe even if you delay his meal a bit if your cat is not a treat focused cat, that way he will be willing to do a trick or two if that means being fed!

Start from the start, and be careful not to expect too much from your cat at first, as this is a new experience for him too. The options can be endless when you know how to start training your cat, so you want your first tricks to be easy and worthwhile for your cat otherwise he will get fed up and be stubborn.

Not only cat training will make your cat look super smart and you feel accomplishment for doing so, it actually creates a bond between you and your cat giving you both a better relationship.

The best command to start off with will have to be the sit command. Simple but effective. Key notes are to repeat the command over while gently applying pressure on your cat’s bottom to sit. Eventually your cat will get the idea and sit. Make sure you say the command “sit” while he’s actually sitting so he can put the two together. As soon as he sits, wether he stays sitting or not, the treat should be given to him as soon as possible, so he can make the association of sitting with the command and when he does that, he also gets a reward!

This process can be repeated time and time again until your cat training pays off and your cat will follow your command without treats. Make sure that every training session ends on a positive note and that your training sessions are not too long, otherwise your cat will get bored, and so will you!

Do not get too frustrated if training your cat takes longer than you expected. Keep at it, you will be pleasantly surprised the day your cat training pays off and you have a cute cat sitting down looking up at you wondering where his treat is!

It is not a pleasant odor or one that you can control very easily especially when there can be so many behavioral factors involved as to why your cat urine smell can be so potent!

The most obvious one comes to mind is when a male kitten is neutered. Usually if you neuter or de-sex your kitten around 6 months old before he becomes sexually mature, you probably won’t notice much of a smell in his urine at all. Once you start leaving your little male kitten to grow a bit older with out neutering him, just like puberty in human males, your kitten will develop in different ways too. As a male cat, he will need to protect his territory and by one way of doing this will be to produce a special scent in his urine. This is typically the potent cat urine smell most people complain of.

Click here for 18 Ways To Stop Cat Urine Odor!

Male cats will mark their territory by backing up to a straight object and squirt sprays of urine onto it, leaving a smell to warn other male cats away and if sexually mature, invite female cats to come looking. Unfortunately to humans, this means our couches, doors, beds and so forth because to the cat, this is his territory after all!

Even female cats can be quite protective of their territory and will also mark in the same way male cats do, and can even be a problem if your cats are neutered or spayed when triggered by enough motivation such as being stressed by new neighbors moving in or new strays entering the neighborhood, this can sometimes trigger the marking behaviour in cats meaning that headache for you! Not to mention the cat urine smell!

Territorial marking is only one of the ways that may cause your cat’s urine to smell, or to have accidents inside maybe on a regular or irregular basis. Various reasons can include an upset in the household as cats can pick up on stress very easily with the humans they live with. Stress in the cats themselves can onset very quickly and easily especially as cats do not adapt well to changes. Introduction to new pets into the house or as previously mentioned, a new feral cat in the neighborhood or new neighbors with pets.

Depending on what is affecting your cat to have these problems there are ways with treating the cat urine smell in your house without expensive cleaners. An important thing to remember is that cat urine is ammonia based, so throw those cleaners out now! The ammonia in these products will indicate to your cat that it’s okay to pee there, as they must have done it at some point before as ammonia residue is strong and will last for a very long time, and this is why humans hate the smell so much!

if you are concerned about your cat’s toileting mishaps, never be afraid to visit your veterinarian. This may mean your cat just needs help settling into a change that has recently happened so just like humans, a pill form of anti-depressant can be prescribed to your cat. Also a non-prescription product which disperses a scent not picked up by humans, mimics the facial pheromones of your cat which they give out when smooching your leg etc, this tells the cat that basically everything is okay, and not to be stressed! You will be amazed at the changes to your cat, and prevent unexpected cat urine smells in your upholstery!
