One
word - DONT!
Declawing
your kitty can be very painful, just not during the process but
even long after. What most people do not realise is that your cats
claws grow differently as to your own nails do.
A
new cats claw will grow inside the original claw and when it is
ready, the outer claw will shed, which is why you may find 'claws'
around the house! These are called 'claw husks' and is just the
shedding of the outer layer as it has become dull, worn and discarded
to let the new fresh one grow through.
Cat
scratching helps the shedding process keeping the claws sharp which
is your kitty's natural defence against preditors, other cats, and
hunting. If your kitty is an outside cat, this will make him very
vunrable to cat fights, being unable to defend himself! So if declawing
your kitty is a must then you have to keep him indoors at all times.
Declawing
also can affect your cat's ability to walk, as they walk on their
toes. The human equivilant to declawing is having your fingers cut
off at the knuckle! Ouch! New claws can also start to grow inside
the paw and will cause painfull infections and discomfort for your
kitty.
If
declawing is definitely the only option and you are set on having
this done, take him to the vet and get this done professionally
where the claws can be surgically removed so no new claws will grow
and cause pain. Another great option is to buy 'claw caps' and have
them glued onto your kitty's claws which will stop your kitty scratching
your couch and your skin. These are great and very stylish for that
up-to-date kitty! Also from a young kitten, investing in a good
scratch pole will do wonders.
So
you won't declaw your kitty now will you? ESPECIALLY doing it by
yourself with your average nail clippers! As a cat lover, think
about it, if your cat just does not behave then perhaps the ebook
below could help save a lot of sweat, blood, tears and money!
