If
you have an outdoor kitty, then you may choose to keep a litter
box inside the house for those 'just incase' moments, but with and
indoor kitty you will know that a litter tray is a must!
For
kittens, your litter box should be low enough so kitty has no trouble
getting in and out of the box, as if you make this an obsticle,
it will deter your kitty to find another spot elsewhere not to your
liking! Choosing the right litter for your kitten is important as
well as you may find your kitten may be curious to taste test the
litter out! Clumping cat litter is a definite no, as these can clump
in the stomach and cause horrible problems for your kitty. Stick
to a good natural litter that will be mainly free from dust, as
this could cause respitory problems in the future.
For
your adult kitty, you will want to make sure the litter box is very
deep, enough to hold about 5 cm of litter high and the box big enough
for kitty to feel comfy. The deep box will help eliiminate the mess
kitty will make while buring their waste!
"Thousands
of years ago, cats were worshipped as gods.
Cats have never forgotten this."

Always
have one litter box per cat in the household. Cats are very territorial,
and their smell is accute to picking up the slightest sent so if
one kitty has used the box, the others will not. It also pays to
keep a spare litter tray available for your kitty as if their own
litter tray offends them, they have a secondry option in a fresh
tray other than behind your favourite seat or in a hard to reach
corner!
Changing
the litter is essential to do at least once every four days. Each
day use a 'pooper scooper' or a plastic bag to remove any solids
which will help kitty's box looking clean and kitty happy to use
the litter box again and again.
If
something is amiss and you find that you need to change your kitty
litter for any reason for an adult cat, always introduce the new
litter bit by bit. Firstly have at least 50% of the old litter and
50% of the new litter. Your cat is a creature of habbit and likes
everything to go like clockwork, so if something new is introduced
without room for getting used to the idea, your kitty may be put
off! Over the course of a couple of weeks, change the iincrease
the new litter ratio to the old litter, until you can just heave
out the old litter all together. If your cat is still not happy,
don't force him, it might be a sign that something is wrong with
the litter and he's trying to tell you to try again with a different
litter!
